RAAF CLASSIC HORNET FOR AWM
The Australian War Memorial (AWM) is to get an F/A-18A ‘Classic’ Hornet.
The former RAAF fighter is one of the so called ‘Classic’ models that are being progressively retired as the 72 F-35A Joint Strike Fighters are introduced into service. The AWM Hornet, A21-022, was dismantled and trucked from RAAF Base Williamtown on 26 October and taken to the Treloar Technology Centre in Canberra. The aircraft will be re-assembled by Boeing Defence Australia during November in time for an official ceremony to hand the machine over to the AWM in December. Another F/A-18A ‘Classic’ Hornet is also scheduled for the AWM at a later time.
