Pilot Medicals Demystified
While the subject of pilot medicals has received its fair share of attention over the years, we have noticed that there are quite a few newer pilots who are not sure what to expect from their first aviation medical. No doubt there are also some ‘more experienced’ ones who are starting to find their various test results are either becoming borderline or have actually crossed the line into that dark and mysterious area where CASA starts to question their ability to continue flying safely.
In this article, Instructor Fabrice takes a (medical) layman’s look at some of the issues raised during the Class 1 medical examination and the purposes behind some of the blood tests. He also reveals how CASA evaluates your medical results and has some practical suggestions for ways to keep passing your medical (at any level) for as long as possible.
