Australian Aviation explores the RAAF’s participation in Operation Okra
Imposing itself with mediaeval barbarity upon feebly-defended swathes of Iraq and Syria, the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has, since September 2014 been subjected to an ongoing campaign of coalition airstrikes aimed at degrading and defeating the fledgling self-styled caliphate.
This open-ended air campaign was at the behest of the Iraqi government, which sought to prevent further egregious human rights abuses that would inevitably attend the Islamic State’s rapid territorial conquests and subsequent imposition of Sharia.
