Behind the prospect of a re-engined Boeing 767X

It’s hard to overstate the depths of the problems that Boeing Commercial Airplanes faces at the end of 2019. Boeing presently has six primary commercial product lines, all of which are currently showing substantial problems. The best known is the 737 MAX, still grounded, called “flying coffins” by a US senator in hearings, and undergoing unprecedented scrutiny by the Federal Aviation Administration, the head of which is has made it clear that the regulator’s role is to determine “when, whether or how the 737 Max will return to service”.

Production of the 737 Next Generation remains almost entirely as military and business jet variants as the line notionally transitions to the MAX.
