A record of tackling the hard issues
AAAA has celebrated its 60th anniversary over the past year. To remain relevant for this long in aviation, the association has consistently delivered on a simple value-for-money proposition for members.
AAAA takes a long, strategic view and has committed significant resources to tackling hard issues – safety culture, environmental protection, better regulation. AAAA has achieved what few others have managed over the decades: sustainable development and continuous improvement, aiming at an ever-higher bar.

Industry-changing programs such as Spraysafe, Aerial Improvement Management System, the Aerial Application Pilots Manual, the Professional Pilot Program and safety training courses have been great vehicles for engaging, educating and empowering not only pilots, but aerial application businesses.
The AAAA Convention, conferences and technical meetings – from bananas to cotton, rice and topdressing and covering every State and Territory – have been instrumental in fostering industry self-recognition.
Its engagement with regulators has been unrelenting and cutting edge. AAAA was the first to drive a sector risk profile, the first to seek recognition of third party audits and the first to seek approval of a better approach to training and certifying chief pilots.
AAAA pioneered the use of outcome-based regulations through CASR Part 137 and is the only sector to achieve a CASA-approved standard operations manual that simplifies compliance, improves industry standardisation and cuts costs.
While the relationship with regulators, including CASA, has sometimes been rocky, there is no doubt that AAAA represents the industry with integrity, expertise and complete commitment – not a bad friend to have in your corner as an individual pilot or a business.
Of course, the aviation side of the business is only part of AAAA’s story.
In agriculture it has maintained access to critical agricultural chemicals for farmers and the industry and has led the reform of the APVMA approach to spray drift management. It continues to facilitate the introduction of new technology such as powerline mapping and marking, and its ongoing safety work informs everyone from regulators to aircraft manufacturers to chemical companies.
In firefighting, AAAA continues to put a strong case for better use of aviation tools on firegrounds around the country.
It appears that even after 60 years of delivering, there is still no shortage of challenges for an Association that holds dear the principle that a united industry is a strong industry.
