The Victa Airtourer
A modest Australian success
The Airtourer’s origins began with a winning design submitted to a Royal Aero Club competition in London during 1952. The design by Henry Millicer with main assistants G D Bennett and J M Tutty from the Government Aircraft Factories (GAF) of their Air Tourer was announced on March 18 1953 as the winner of Touring Aircraft Section of the Kemsley Trust design competition from a field of 12 entries.
The talented Millicer, gained his aeronautical engineering degrees in Poland and England, worked at Airspeed and Hunting Percival, prior to migrating to Australia. As Chief Aerodynamicist at GAF he was associated with several projects including Jindivik and Malkara.
