The government gets back into the airports business

So the federal government is to go ahead and build Western Sydney Airport, with the bulldozers beginning work at the Badgerys Creek site barely 12 months from now in the second half of next year.

That feels quite soon, but of course Badgerys Creek was first selected for the site of Sydney’s second airport over 30 years ago in 1986. And on current timings, it will have taken 40 years from site selection to the first commercial flight touching down in late 2026. We don’t do big projects in a hurry in Australia.
