Convair 440 for HARS
A Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (HARS) crew of four pilots arrived in South Africa in early May to prepare the organisation’s latest acquisition, a Convair 440, for its ferry to Australia. The aircraft is at Wonderboom in South Africa and should be flying to Australia in coming weeks.
“Unfortunately it is not simply [a case of] ‘go over there and get the aircraft’ – there is a considerable amount of licensing paperwork and training involved before we can finally tick all the boxes and start engines to come home,” HARS explained in a Facebook post on May 2.
