More to come?
There are some good signs from CASA, but much still needs addressing
The appointment of the new Minister for Infrastructure and Transport Darren Chester is welcome as a fresh new perspective is always healthy for any environment. The Minister’s new aviation advisor is also experienced in aviation operations and regulations and is held in high regard. The RAAA looks forward to a strong working relationship.
In the meantime, good work continues to be done within CASA as the Safety Systems Office continues to work with industry in establishing an objective and data-driven foundation of the risk profile of the small aircraft sector. This is encouraging news for those charter operators which will need to transition to CASR Part 135 operations. This is an excellent example of how the Directive 01/2015 can and should be applied to all regulatory development. The director of aviation safety regulation’s challenge (in this area) will be to ensure all industry consultation and regulation development is conducted using this philosophy and that resultant regulations are reflective of that input.
