For small regional communities, the airport can be the sole link to the rest of the country
For some time the AAA has been aware of a common issue facing many regional airports across the country: the inability to secure sufficient funding for maintenance and infrastructure upgrades.
The vast majority of regional aerodromes are owned and operated by local government. While councils make every effort to ensure funding is made available for their aerodrome, the reality is that aerodromes must compete with other community infrastructure projects and services for an often very limited pool of funding, particularly capital funding.
