The Next Generation
UNSW aviation students will have the ability to become ‘QantasLink Approved’ through the course of their degree studies
To a backdrop of University of New South Wales training aircraft and a QantasLink Dash 8-Q400, the two organisations announced the next step in their long-standing relationship. Selected student pilots at UNSW will have tailored training designed to prepare them for the flightdeck of the Q400 by virtue of specific equipment, a new syllabus and the direct mentoring of current QantasLink pilots.
A changing face
Over recent years there has been a particular focus on the relevanceof basic flight training to the responsibilities and skills needed to operate as a crew on a modern flightdeck. A number of other fields already branch their undergraduates off into specialist training once the fundamentals have been instilled. Such a call is growing in aviation too and everyone from ICAO to pilots unions have weighed in on the subject with valid cases being put forward from either side.
