Qantas should seize the opportunity presented by the 787

The story goes that in the late 1990s then Boeing president Phil Condit’s eyes welled up when he was given a dressing down by Wall Street analysts over the prospect that Boeing would spends billions on a souped-up version of the 747 (the 747-500/-600) before the A380 was launched.

He backed off and the A380 had a clear run.
