Horsham Airport to receive runway improvements

Horsham Airport’s two runways will be upgraded to support emergency and general aviation services.

New shoulders will be built on runway 17/35, while pavements and seals will be repaired and new drainage lines added. Meanwhile, runway 08/26 will be resealed.

Runway and takeaways line markings would also be renewed, Victorian Minister for Aviation Industry Gordon Rich-Phillips said.

Rich-Phillips said Horsham Airport in western Victoria was critical to emergency ambulance and firefighting operations, as well as crop dusting operations that supported local agribusinesses. It also supported general aviation, a local aero club, two gliding clubs and was occasionally used by military aircraft.

“These major upgrades will ensure Horsham Aerodrome can operate continuously to support emergency and general aviation services,” Rich-Phillips said in a statement.

“It is vital the aerodrome can operate 24-hours a day, year round.”

The work would cost $464,526, Rich-Phillips said.

Meanwhile, Rich-Phillips said upgrades to Kyneton Airfield’s lighting and fuel facilities have been completed.

As a result of the $170,320 improvements, Kyneton now has a 24-hour self-service aviation fuel facility and a Civil Aviation Safety Authority-approved Pilot Activated Lighting system.

“This has improved night operations safety and provided lighting for local aircraft, the airfield’s flight training facility and emergency operations,” the minister’s office said in a statement.
