Not a day to waste
It is time to remove aviation’s regulatory compliance burden
Regional aviation is a highly dynamic environment and can give the appearance of always being at the crossroads. This however can encourage a focus on the challenges rather than the opportunities.
As some services are withdrawn due to cost pressures on operators, local councils are starting to understand that a more cooperative approach is needed, and that neither airports nor the airlines should be treated as simply cash cows. Most regional communities want reliable transport infrastructure and regional operators are part of the services mix. Instead of the heady start-up followed by slow decline pattern often repeated in regional aviation, a more even, long-term relationship should be the goal. The concept of sustainable growth can be achieved if the council, the community and the operator have realistic expectations from the beginning. The detailed discussions before beginning a new route are at least as important as the ongoing relationship between the council and the operator.
