The Fleet Air Arm is often the forgotten force. In a service normally associated with grey ocean-going vessels and submarines, the helicopters of the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) are a vital component of Australia’s defence force landscape. They have been constantly on duty in some of the world’s most unstable regions for decades and it is almost a case of out-of-sight and out-of-mind. Nothing should be further from the truth.
