Airservices and Airways pioneer ATM technologies
Whichever way you look at air traffic control, Airservices Australia and Airways New Zealand are two of the world’s leading air navigation service providers (ANSPs). Australian Aviation examines the philosophy and technologies that set them apart.
The message at Airservices Australia, one of the world’s most awarded ANSPs, is not quite what Einstein’s famous quote that “it has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity” suggests, but perhaps it is closer to “consider what technology is delivering. ” For the past 10 years Airservices has won a string of international awards for being first to roll out a raft of technologies that have led the world, but general manager air traffic control group Jason Harfield says that the pace has slowed as more emphasis is put on community consultation and a more detailed examination of what the technology is actually delivering.
