Maintaining Change

CASR Part 145 introduced

The recent introduction of CASA’s new Civil Aviation Safety Regulations (CASR) Part 145 for Australia’s MRO industry has caused some debate over its attempt to harmonise with the similar EASA Part 145 regulations, and the future viability of smaller players in the industry.

Implemented under a suite of four key maintenance regulations (CASR Part 42, Part 66, Part 145 and Part 147), CASR Part 145 specifically deals with approving maintenance organisation for aircraft and aeronautical products for aircraft authorised to operate in regular public transport (RPT) operations. Though the new legislation was passed through Parliament in December last year, it has been a near six-year long process to prepare such regulations for industry acceptance, as CASA Certification and Airworthiness Standards manager, Nicholas Ward explained.
