US naval airpower at Talisman Sabre

Exercise Talisman Sabre 2011 (TS11) saw an extensive contribution from Navy and Marine Corps squadrons, as they entered into mock combat with Australian forces between July 11 and 29.

Some 14,000 US and 8500 Australian defence personnel descended onto six Defence training areas spread across Queensland and Darwin for TS11, together with approximately 150 aircraft and 18 naval vessels operating in the Coral, Timor and Arafura Seas. As has been the case for the past three Talisman Sabre exercises held in 2005, 2007 and 2009, interoperability was a key theme for both US and Australian forces.
