Chinook crash highlights capability gap

The loss of a CH-47D Chinook in Afghanistan on May 30 with the tragic death of LT Marcus Case was a real set back for Army.

The crash left A15-102 in such a bad state that it was deemed to be not recoverable, and the order came to destroy the machine’s remains on site. Thankfully there were no additional deaths or major injuries, but it was the first time the ADF has lost an aircraft in combat operations since the Vietnam War.
