Incidents and accidents
Information is knowledge. In the field of flight instruction, and for that matter any section of aviation, knowledge of what caused an incident or accident can be vital in order to prevent a repeat of the earlier event. Reading incident and accident reports can help. A pilot can never have enough knowledge.
In the US aircraft accidents are investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), sometimes with assistance from the FAA. Here in Australia the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) investigates a limited number of aviation accidents and incidents. Passenger carrying aircraft accidents take priority and in general terms are then followed by accidents that may have a bearing on other commercial and private flight operations.
