iscoverThe Lockyer Valley Regional Council has approved plans for a new airport in southeast Queensland, with an eye towards attracting regional airline flights.
To be developed by private consortium VNE Aviation, the new airport is being built near Queensland’s Lake Clarendon, situated between Ipswich and the Toowoomba and Darling Downs region. An initially planned 1250m runway could be extended in the future, and the airport could act as an emergency services base during any future natural disasters.

The airport is expected to be open to flights before the end of the year.
Lockyer Valley mayor Steve Jones has suggested the airport could eventually host daily commercial flights to Sydney, as it would be suitable for regional airliners such as the Bombardier Dash 8.
