QAL airports continue to see growth

written by australianaviation.com.au | September 17, 2010

Queensland Airports Limited has recorded strong increases in traffic at Townsville, Mount Isa and Gold Coast airports during August, aided by increased international traffic and the ongoing recovery in the resources industry.

Mount Isa airport recorded the biggest increase, with passenger numbers up 29.9 per cent compared to the same time last year. This was followed by the Gold Coast, which recorded a 9.1 per cent increase in traffic as international traffic increased by 15.4 per cent while domestic traffic was up 10 per cent. Townsville saw a 6.8 per cent increase in traffic over the month.

“The strong passenger movements across the board have been underpinned by strong support from our airline partners and all in all this reflects well on the economy and the resulting consumer confidence in Australia,” said QAL managing director Dennis Chant.

“We do, however, recognise that there is still uncertainty in some sectors of the economy and our airports continue to work closely with our communities and our airline partners to facilitate improved usage of the available airline seat capacity,” he added.
