Perth completes domestic forecourt works

written by australianaviation.com.au | June 2, 2010

Construction of the $10 million forecourt at the front of Perth Airport’s domestic terminals has been completed, opening up new lanes and covered walkways aimed at increasing the efficiency of traffic flows around the terminals.

“The dedicated traffic lanes for taxis, buses and the general public have been designed to improve vehicle and pedestrian access into and out of the domestic terminals and will improve the journey for all airport users, particularly frequent travellers,” said the airport’s CEO Brad Geatches.

“The new permanent passenger drop-off and pick-up lane includes overhead canopies for weather protection and extends along the entire front of the Domestic Terminals. The eight bay taxi boarding area, located in front of Domestic Terminal 3, has already reduced waiting time for passengers to around 10 minutes in peak times and taxi drivers can queue far easier with the new system.”

The works are part of a major program of improvements being made by the airport, which also include new retail concessions in Terminal Three and a new on-airport road to link the domestic and international terminals. The road is scheduled to open by the end of 2010.
