• On May 5 a new production Tupolev Tu-160 Blackjack was to delivered to the Russian air force at Engels air base near Saratov. The aircraft was delivered from the Kazan Aviation plant where it was stored unfinished for several years until funding was received last year.

• The maiden flight of the first Australian assembled Hawk Mk 127 Lead-In Fighter (LIF) for the RAAF, A27-10/ ‘DT10’, took place from BAE Systems’s LIF Support Facility at Williamtown on May 12.
