a Good Mix of Types Make Up the New Allocations Section This Issue Including Three New Airbus A320s, Two for Jetstar and One for Tiger, a Boeing 737 for Qantas and Two New Bizjets, Bombardier Global Expresses Law and Ocv. The First Five Diamond Stars for the University of Nsw Are Also Listed as Well as the Usual Swag of Robinson Helicopters and, on the Lighter Side, Three New Kavanagh Hot Air Balloons.

Probably the Most Interesting Aircraft Listed is Dieter Sedlbauer’s Bell Airabonita Replica.

The Airabonita Was a Development of Bell P-39 Airacobra and P-63 Kingcobra Fitted With a Tailwheel for Use on Aircraft Carriers by the Us Navy. Unfortunately Development Costs and a Lengthy Test Program Killed the Project and Only a Single Prototype Was Built. As a Result Dieter Has Built His 86 Per Cent Scale Replica Using Only Published Photos. The Mid Engine Layout Has Been Retained in the Replica but Power is From a Toyota Camry 1mz 3. 0 Litre V6. Although Not Flown at the Time of Writing, the Aircraft is in the Later Stages of Construction and May Have Already Flown by the Time You Read This.

Andrew Moore’s Taylor Monoplane Aze is a Welcome Addition to the Local Aviation Scene as It is Quite a Rare Aircraft in Australia. Designed by John Taylor During 1956 It Was the First Post-war Homebuilt Available in Britain. It Was a High Wing, Single-seat, Semiaerobatic Aircraft Fitted With a Tailwheel, and Although It Was Designed to Use a 36hp (29kw) Aeronca/jap Engine, Later Models Have Favoured a Modified Volkswagen Powerplant.

Taylor Flew the Prototype, Gaprt, for the First Time During July 1959 From White Waltham Airfield Near His Home in Ilford, Essex. Since Then Hundreds of Monoplanes Have Been Built With Over 100 Known to Be Still Active, and It is Testament to the Design and Ruggedness of the Aircraft That the Original Design Has Not Needed to Be Updated.

Andrew’s Monoplane Was Built in England During 1988 by Jm Springham and Rj Whybrow Using a Modified 1600cc Volkswagen Engine.

After Purchasing the Aircraft in the Uk Andrew Moved to Beaconsfield, Western Australia, and Brought the Monoplane With Him Where It Has Become the Only Taylor Monoplane Presently on the Casa Register.

There Are Currently Five on the Ra-aus Books, and the Type Has Been More Popular in New Zealand Where 22 Have Graced the Skies With Seven Still Flying.

Pipistrel Virus Sw Pxt is the First of Its Type on the Register, and is a Development of the Virus 912 Powered Motor Glider of Which There Are Four on the Ra-aus Register. The Virus is an All Composite, High Wing Two Seater Incorporating a T-tail, Kevlar Reinforced Cockpit and Leather Interior. The Sw Version is Fitted With a Tricycle Undercarriage and a 10. 7m Wing as Opposed to the Standard Virus’s Tail Wheel and 12m Wing (Sw = Short Wing). An 80 or 100hp (60 or 75kw) Rotax Engine is Available in Both Models. In a World First the Full Range of Pipistrel Gliders, Powered Gliders and Ultralight Aircraft Are Constructed Using Geothermal and Solar Energy Power in Their Production Facility in Slovenia.

Another New Type Listed This Issue is Julian Walter’s Aviat a-1c Husky Jwm. Aviat Aircraft Owes Its Origins to Frank Christensen Who Tried, Unsuccessfully, to Buy the Rights to Build the Pitts Special During the 1970s. Christensen Then Decided to Build His Own Aerobatic Biplane in Competition With the Pitts Which He Called the Christensen Eagle. In 1981 Christensen Again Tried to Obtain the Pitts Design, This Time Successfully, and for Some Years Both Aircraft Were Produced at Separate Factories, the Pitts at Hollister, California, and the Eagle at Afton, Wyoming.

After a Downturn in Eagle Sales in the Early 1980s Christensen Consolidated the Manufacturing of Both Aircraft to Afton. Christensen Then Tried to Buy the Rights to Build the Piper Super Cub but Failed, and as With the Eagle Decided to Design His Own Aircraft Instead, Which Became the Husky.

The Aircraft Was a High Wing, Tailwheel, Two-seater Powered by a 180hp (135kw) Lycoming Engine Driving a Harzell Constant Speed Propeller.

During 1988 the Company Was Renamed Aviat and the Product Line-up Was the Factory Built Pitts Special S-2c, Plans for the Pitts S-1s and Plans and Components for the S-1-11b Super Stinker, the Eagle Available in Kit Form and the Factory Built a-1b Husky.

Jwm is the Very Latest Aviat a-1c Husky Model Fitted With a 200hp (150kw), Six Cylinder, Fuel Injected Lycoming Engine Driving an Mt Composite Propeller.

The Aircraft Boasts 60 Per Cent Span Semi-fowler Flaps for Stol Performance, While the Husky Was One of the First Aircraft to Incorporate Airbags in Its Cockpit Design. There Are Presently Four Earlier Model Aviat Huskies on the Local Register.

The Historical Aircraft Restoration Society (Hars) Has Reregistered Its Douglas C-54 From Paf to Eay in Line With Other Aircraft in Its Fleet Using Period Qantas Registrations.

The C-54 Had Been Dormant at Archerfield for a Number of Years, but After 18 Months of Work by Hars Volunteer Engineers It Finally Took to the Air Again on December 21 Last Year for Its Ferry Flight to the Hars Facility at Illawarra Regional Airport. It is Hoped That the Aircraft Can Be Painted to Represent a Qantas Dc-4 and Can Accompany the Hars Connie to Airshows in the Near Future.

Richard Swansborough’s Seacam 65k is a Home Made, Small Capacity, Hot Air Balloon Which Has Taken 390 Hours to Complete. It First Took to the Air During February at Mandagery, Nsw, and Richard Will Use It in His Aerial Photography Business.

Richard Specialises in Underwater and Aerial Photography and Uses the Seacam, Kites, Helicopters, Fixed Wing and Radio Controlled Aircraft for His Airborne Video and Still Photography.

Only One Aircraft is Returning to the Register This Month, Steve Kittel’s Hutter H-17 Glider Iuw. The Hutter Was Designed for the Amateur Builder and is Made of Wood and Built From Scratch Using Plans Supplied by the Designer.

Iuw Was Originally Built by Harold Bradley of Trinity Gardens, South Australia, and Was First Registered During May 1985. Steve Kittel Obtained the Glider in December 1992 and the Registration Was Revoked on July 6 2006. Now Back on the Register, It is One of 10 to Be Built Locally With Only Four Remaining Active.

We Have a Large Deletions Section This Issue With 43 Aircraft Listed. This in No Way Suggests a Downturn in Aircraft Ownership in Australia as There Are More Than Twice as Many Aircraft Joining the Register Over the Same Time Period. Exports Account for Almost Half of the Deletions With New Zealand and Singapore Being the Destinations of Choice This Month.

In New Zealand Robinson R44 Raven Azv Has Been Sold to Barn Bay Fishing at Haast and is Now Marked as Zk-hpr While Beech Baron Bqf is With Rainbow Lea Aviation at Tirau and Flies as Zk-seb.
