Emirates will add more capacity between Melbourne and Dubai from July as it replaces Airbus A340-500s with Boeing 777-300ERs on two of its three daily servics, meaning all three Melbourne flights will now be operated by 777-300ERs.

The changes see the daily EK409 service from Melbourne to Dubai via Kuala Lumpur upgraded from A340-500s to 777-300ERs from July 2, with EK407, which flies Auckland-Melbourne-Dubai, upgraded to 777-300ERs from August 2. The third daily Melbourne service, EK405, to Dubai via Singapore, is already serviced by 777-300ER aircraft.

The aircraft upgrades will lift Emirates’s capacity between Melbourne and Dubai by 23 per cent, and between Melbourne and Auckland by 37 per cent.

Emirates said that the changes will ensure a more consistent product offering on its Melbourne services, and also meets higher demand from the Victorian capital. “Demand for Emirates’s flights from Melbourne to Europe, the Middle East, Africa and New Zealand has consistently grown year-on-year, and the continued capacity increases are a reflection of this,” said Dean Cleaver, Emirates’s sales manager for Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and Northern Territory.
