737 and A320 facing challengers & changes

After years of tweaks and continual improvements to both the 737NG and A320 family of aircraft, Boeing and Airbus appear set to announce new engine options for their narrowbody aircraft by the end of the year.

With replacements for both types now being pushed out to the 2020-2024 timeframe due to strong sales in recent years, a number of airlines and lessors have been calling on the manufacturers to provide updates to the aircraft, particularly to continue improving their fuel efficiency.
