“As a major contributor to Tasmanian tourism with our high frequency, low fare services into and from the state we remain committed to support the industry during its most important annual travel period,” said Jetstar CEO Bruce Buchanan.

Jetstar’s increase comes weeks after Tiger Airways announced that it will double its frequencies on the Melbourne-Hobart to twice daily from February 5. With Tiger also announcing increases on a number of other routes, including its entry onto the Melbourne-Brisbane route, it is expected that competition between the two low cost carriers will continue to heat up over the next year.
