written by australianaviation.com.au | October 21, 2009

Virgin Blue has announced that it will add five additional weekly frequencies on its Perth-Port Hedland route from November 16.

The new services will depart Perth at 0600 each weekday, arriving in Port Hedland at 0805, with the return service departing half an hour later and arriving back in Perth at 1035. The services will be operated by an Embraer E-190, with lead-in fares starting from $199 one way.

“The decision to increase capacity on this route throughout the working week is the result of ongoing support from Port Hedland Council, the airports and community as well as a brand new air service partnership between Fortescue Metals Group (FMG) and Virgin Blue,” Virgin Blue CEO Brett Godfrey said.

“We are extremely pleased to be partnering with FMG in a deal that will bring additional benefits to the Port Hedland community and business sector which will have even greater access to air services with the increase in frequency.”

Virgin Blue currently operates daily services on the Perth-Port Hedland route which operates in the afternoons. The new frequencies will not be affect the existing schedule.
