The USAF has given Lockheed Martin’s Advanced Composite Cargo Aircraft (ACCA) technology demonstrator the designation the X-55A.
The one-off ACCA, which first flew in June, uses the wings, engines and empennage of a Dornier 328JET mated to an all-new composite structure fuselage, using just 300 new parts to replace more than 3000 original parts, and just one-tenth the number of fasteners.
