The Qantas Group recorded a six per cent increase in passenger traffic during August, although traffic on Qantas’s international services dropped by more than a quarter compared to the previous year.
Domestically, Qantas and Jetstar recorded increases in passenger numbers of 1.8 and 1.3 per cent respectively, although QantasLink saw a decline of 0.2 per cent. As it cut capacity by 4.8 per cent, Qantas’s load factor increased by 4.2 percentage points to 82.1 per cent, while Jetstar’s 5.5 per cent capacity cut saw its loads improve by 5.2 percentage points to 84.8 per cent. QantasLink’s loads grew by 0.6 points to 70.7 per cent as its five per cent capacity decrease helped to balance out a 4.2 per cent decrease in revenue passenger kilometres.

Passenger numbers on Qantas’s international services continued their lower trend, down by 25.9 per cent, although a 14.7 per cent drop in capacity saw load factor rise by three points to 80.8 per cent. Jetstar’s international services increased by 107.3 per cent, driving RPKs up by 28.1 per cent, while ASKs increased by 28.8 per cent. That resulted in the low cost carrier’s international load factor decreasing by 0.4 points to 76.7 per cent.
