Nrma Careflight Begins Using Nvg

Sydney Based Nrma Careflight Began Using Night Vision Goggles (Nvgs) on Its Rescue Missions in Early April After the Rescue Helicopter Service Received Formal Approval From Casa to Undertake Nvg Night Operations.

An Nrma Careflight Crew Used Nvgs for the First Time While Searching for a Metroliner Which Crashed Into the Sea Off Port Hacking Shortly After Taking Off From Sydney Airport at Approximately 11. 30pm on April 9.

Aircrewman David Mann Said Nvgs Helped the Crew Conduct Their Search From Bundeena, on the Southern Side of Port Hacking, Along the Coastline of the Royal National Park to Wattamolla, Locating Some Wreckage and Fuel Along the Coastline.

It is Believed the Search for the Metroliner Was the First Use of Nvgs by a Non-military Rescue Helicopter in New South Wales.
