Maintaining the edge

The pilot shortage might be grabbing the headlines, but it’s not just those at the front end of the aircraft who have been lured away from the industry.

Airlines and MROs (maintenance, repair and overhaul organisations) have also found it difficult to find sufficient aircraft maintenance engineers. This skilled and motivated but decreasing workforce base is, in a time of practically full employment, showing signs of being unable to keep pace with the demands of a rapidly growing aviation industry.
