A new direction or a lack of substance?

Where now for Defence under the new Labor government and new minister Joel Fitzgibbon? Up to the election, Labor’s defence policy lacked both initiative and substance, and with a few minor differences, echoes much of that of the former government.

Labor says its Defence policy will be built around three fundamental pillars – Australia’s relationship with the US; our active membership of the UN; and maintaining close engagement within our region.
