Flight Systems of Newport Beach has proposed the replacement of the Lockheed T-33’s existing Allison J33 turbojet with the Rolls-Royce Adour 861. The Adour turbofan is smaller and lighter than the J33 and has a lower specific fuel consumption which would extend the range of the T-33A by about 60%. Up to 700 T-33s are still in service worldwide.

The Philippines Air Force’s new CinC, Brig Gen Ramon G Farolan, has reinstated the withdrawal of the F-8H Crusader. The Marcos Government had decided to retain the F-8Hs until 1990, but following Marcos’ ousting, that decision has been overturned. The F-8Hs have been a source of continuing embarrassment for the PAF, as a lack of spares and serious corrosion has seen most of them grounded since the early 1980s. Funds are now being sought for a second squadron of F-5s.
