Charrak Air Electra Enters Service
Charrak Air took delivery of Lockheed Electra L-188CF N360Q at Cairns on April 22 after the aircraft ferried in from Roswell, New Mexico via San Diego, Maui and Majuro. N360Q is owned by the JBQ Aviation Corporation of Miami who has a 50% holding in Charrak Air. The Electra operated its first revenue service for Charrak Air on April 23 when it flew from Cairns to Honiara and return. Interestingly the callsign used by the Electra on the Cairns to Honiara sector was ‘Pacific Air Express 3517’. Charrak Air plans to operate four return flights weekly between Cairns and Honiara as well as a single return service from Honiara to Brisbane. In Honiara the Electra will uplift tuna which, on arrival in Brisbane and Cairns, will be transshipped to flights destined for Japan.
The Charrak Electra N360Q msn 1112 started its life in November 1958 when Northwest Airlines placed an order for 10 Lockheed L-188C aircraft. Electra serial number 1112 was the ninth of the aircraft in this order and as N129US it made its first flight on November 25 1959 from the Hollywood/Burbank Airport in California. On December 15 N129US was delivered to Northwest and over the following decade it operated over the Northwest US domestic network.
