A New Arrival At RAAF Edinburgh In Late June Was This Ex Us Navy P-3b Orion. The Aircraft Will Be Used As A Source Of Spares. The RAAF Is Due To Take Delivery Of A Further Three Ex Usn P-3bs From September Next Year. These Aircraft Will Be Refurbished By The Us Navy And Have Their Maritime Patrol Gear Removed Prior To Delivery, And Will Be Used For Orion Aircrew Flight Training. More than 18,000 Australian and overseas personnel are engaged in the operational phase of the Australian Defence Force’s multinational and bilateral major joint Defence exercise, Kangaroo 95, over much of northern Australia through July and August. The exercise, which actually started for the ADF on January 15 this year as a staff exercise involving all the various headquarters of the ADF RAAF, RAN and Army, culminates in the main operational phase from August 1 to 25.
The land and international and territorial waters in which engagements are taking place cover roughly two million square kilometres. They stretch about 4000 kilometres from Derby, Western Australia in the west to Cairns in Queensland in the east. Darwin is a focal point which also contains the Headquarters of the ADF’s Northern Command.
