Upgraded Wagga And Albury Services
Air services between Sydney and Wagga will be upgraded under a new agreement between Ansett Australia and regional affiliate Kendell Airlines. The number of weekly flights to Albury and Wagga will increase from 43 to 54 from July, 27 to each destination using new Saab 340B aircraft to replace the larger Ansett Fokker 50s.
Safety Charges To Increase Fares?
Air fares could rise following a Federal Government decision to partly fund the new Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) through increased taxes on aviation fuel. According to Minister for Transport Laurie Brereton: “Increases in the duty on aviation fuels will be necessary to fund the industry’s and travelling public’s portion of the additional CASA budgetary requirements”. The specific size of the increase in fuel duties will be announced in the May budget.
