Australian Spitfire Flys In The Uk

A Spitfire that was for many years the sistership to Col Pay’s Mk VIII MV239/VH-HET has taken to the air in the UK after a lengthy rebuild. The Spitfire Mk VIII, MV154, was owned by aviation legend Sid Marshall at Bankstown, NSW, between 1963 and 1975. Both aircraft were part of what has become known as the Marshall collection. Sid Marshall obtained the two Spitfires from Titus Oates who in turn had purchased them from the Sydney Technical College where they had been used as instructional aids since the late 1940s. Neither aircraft had seen service with the RAF or the RAAF, being delivered too late for operations in the Pacific Theatre. MV239 was allocated the RAAF serial A58-758 while MV154 was allotted A58-671 though neither aircraft carried the marking.
