The CA-11 Woomera A23-1 made its maiden flight on July 7 1944, flown by G.R. Board. Unfortunately, this Australian reconnaissance bomber project was cancelled in September. A23-1 was taken on charge by the RAAF on November 22 and delivered to No 1 Aircraft Performance Unit Laverton, Victoria, for general performance trials. On January 16 1945 approval was given for its conversion into parts. (AWM)

December 1 – Australia. 21 Beaufighters of 31 Sqn loaded with extra equipment and each carrying four passengers leave Coomalie for Merauke thence to Noemfoor, where they join the 1st Tactical Air Force. In seven days they will move forward to Morotai into 77 Wing.
December 2/3 – Britain. P/O G Williams & F/Sgt J Dunn of 464 Sqn are lost over Germany in Mosquito MM427/J.
