Ian Oldmeadow formerly Ansett’s head of its new international operations has left the airline to join Qantas as the latter’s Executive General Manager – National Operations. Other recently announced Qantas appointments include Norman Fricker, Executive General Manager – Associated Businesses; David Hawes – General Manager, Government Affairs; Simon Davis, General Manager – International Alliances; Geoff Appleton, Manager – Passenger Sales International; Barry Robinson, Group General Manager – Staff; and Peter Marsh, Group Manager – Industrial Relations. Eastern Airlines has appointed Paul Glaser as Commercial Manager. Alan Mulgrew is the FAC’s new General Manager for Sydney (Kingsford Smith) Airport. Leading transport lawyer Rodon King has joined the Sydney office of national law firm Clayton Utz as a partner.

Bottom Line

Boeing has reported sales of $US5.4bn and net earnings of $US222m for the second quarter of 1994. Comparable figures for 1993 were sales of $US8.0bn and net earnings of $US426m. For the first six months of 1994 sales were $US11.7bn with net earnings of $US514m, compared with 1993 first half results of sales of $US14.6bn and net earnings of $US751m. Northwest posted a second quarter net income of $US71.3m on income of $US207.8m, on revenues of $US2.273bn. Net income then for the first six months of 1994 was $US89.6m.
