The Beechjet 400A has been approved for shorter takeoff field lengths following an increase in engine thrust and a new takeoff flap setting. At its maximum takeoff weight of 7,310 kg (16,100 lb), the 400A now requires 1,160 m (3,802 ft) of runway at sea level on a standard day, a reduction of approximately 150 m (500 ft). At lighter weights, the aircraft requires less runway, and field upgrade kits for this reduced takeoff distance will be available for 400As. As a result of the field length reduction, the Beechjet can now depart from 30% more airports in the United States. (Beech)

Cessna 180 Returns:
The Cessna 180 utility light aircraft – or at leasta replica of it – is back in production inCanada in kit form.
Cyclone 180 Returns:
Built by Quebec based Avionnerie Lac St-Jean (ALSJ), the replica of the 1954 model 180 is called the Cyclone 180 and an eventual production line producing 25 kits per month is planned. The company is able to build the aircraft due to US law, under which pre 1954 US aircraft designs are not covered by patents and can be freely copied. The basic kit cost around $US22,000 and takes 1000 hours to assemble. Builders are able to complete the kits as a 180, 170 or 185 and the company is also working on a tricycle undercarriage version enabling replicas of the 172, 175 and 182 to be built.
