Strung Out!

Back in the 1950s, aircrew in the USAF flying C-97s, the military version of the Boeing Stratocruiser four engined airliner, often got bored with carting army personnel all over the US and Canada to various exercises. The routine flying got very monotonous, so one crew member of a Stratocruiser thought he had better bring some humour to the flightdeck. The Stratocruiser had a raised flightdeck which meant the crew were seated above and out of sight of their unwary passengers behind and below them.
