Update – Avro International RJ70
Avro International Aerospace RJ70
The RJ70 (Regional Jet 70) variant of the BAe 146-100 was first mooted by British Aerospace in mid 1990 with the aircraft mainly being earmarked for the United States regional airline market. It was proposed that the RJ70 would combine the dimensions of the BAe 146-100 with the newly developed Textron Lycoming LF507 engine.
In December 1991 British Aerospace received their first order for the RJ70 when the Delta Connection Carrier Business Express of Westport, Connecticut ordered 20 aircraft. In June 1992 British Aerospace officially launched the RJ (Regional Jet) series with the BAe 146-100, BAe 146-200 and BAe 146-300 becoming the RJ70, RJ85 and RJ100 respectively. All versions of the new regional aircraft were powered by the Textron Lycoming LF507 engine which replaced the ALF502 engine previously used on the BAe 146.
