777 Makes First Flight

The Boeing 777 successfully completed its maiden flight on June 12 from Everett. The new airliner’s first flight lasted three hours and 48 minutes during which time 30 systems checks were carried out and various manoeuvres performed. The flight was piloted by Captains John Cashman and Ken Higgins, and included a shut down and relighting of one of the 777s Pratt & Whitney PW4084 turbofans in flight.

Australian Airlink Increases Capacity With New Aircraft

Qantas subsidiary Australian Airlink has announced a big expansion of its network, launching daily services between Perth and Alice Springs with connections to Darwin from November 5. Elsewhere, the airline will more than double frequency on the Canberra/Brisbane route from September 3.
