The Bati’Le for Schofields

As if General Aviation didn’t have enough battles to fight, another one has emerged that if lost has the potential to be a major problem for many future generations of private pilots. What we are referring to is the battle for Schofields, the small weekends only GA airfield situated to the northwest of Sydney.

Schofields is actually better known as HMAS Nirimba, a Navy training base established in 1942 and vacated by its creator during the eighties as an ongoing part of the Defence rationalisation programme of the period. Whilst primarily a skills training establishment, HMAS Nirimba occasionally hosted RAN aircraft for many years though since 1968 has been better known as the HQ of the well known and highly successful Schofields Flying Club.
