• Ansett Airlines took delivery of their first Boeing 767-277 on June 6. The aircraft, VH-RMD, was first flown on May 4 and was the 51st 767 to be delivered. The delivery flight was flown Seattle/Honolulu/Port Moresby/Sydney/Melbourne. The final leg of the trip to Australia was on June 10 when VH-RMD flew as flight ANO767 from Port Moresby to Sydney.

The British Aerospace 146 gained FAA Type Approval on June 16 for both the Series 100A and Series 200A and this paved the way for the introduction into service of the Series 200A of Air Wisconsin. Their first 146 arrived at Appleton, Wisconsin on June 16. and was introduced into service on June 27 when it flew from Fort Wayne, Indiana to Chicago O’Hare. In other 146 news, the RAF took delivery of its first 146 C Mki on June 14 when ZD696 was handed over at Hatfield. This aircraft was completed as the first Series 100, previously registered as G-SCHH. • A conversion has been proposed by Pratt & Whitney to existing McDonnell Douglas F-4 Phantom operators to replace the GE J79 with the 20,600lb st PW1120 turbofan. The diameters are comparable and the 1. 1m (3ft 8in) shorter PW1120 could provide space for additional fuel.
