Germany's Luftwaffe inherited a small amount of equipment from the East German state airline lnterf/ug, at the time of the country's unification. Included were three A31Os, in addition to a small number of Jl-62Ms and Tu-154s. This A310 was one of two military Airbus to visit Australia recently, the other being a Canadian Armed Forces example (refer to Traffic p44). (Justin Gierke)

Navy Gets a Bargain:
The Royal Australian Navy has got something of a bargain with the purchase of the recently decommissioned US Navy guided missile destroyer (DDG) USS Goldsborough for just $US2. 2m.
The ship will be used to provide training equipment and spares for the RAN’s three operational DDGS-Perth, Hobart and Brisbane-plus its guided missile frigates (FFGs) and will betowedto Australia. Goldsborough has been modernised to a configurationsimilar to that of the RAN’s DDGS and as such will be a valuable training aid as well as being able to provide appropriate spare parts. The ship’s electronics fit alone is valued at $US1. 8m.
