ANSETT NZ Takes Off

A new era of rivalry appears to be dawning between Ansett New Zealand and Air New Zealand, following a spectacular improvement in the farmer’s business.

The chief executive of the Ansett airline, Mr Gary Smith, announced a 23% growth in business between July 1989 and last March. The unofficial word was that the improvement was still ballooning beyond March, with new highs being set in weekly passenger uplifts. Ansett New Zealand now claims to be flying 40% of the frequencies on the Auckland/Wellington/Christchurch trunk, and 50% on the Wellington/Dunedin services.
