DC-3 News
Air Queensland have ferried their four retired DC-3s from Cairns to Brisbane for storage and eventual sale. All ferry flights were made in December as follows – VH-EDC/12th, VH-BPN/ 16th VH-PWN/19th and VH-BPL/29th. The last mentioned aircraft: VH-BPL was ferried south with an all white tail and Air Queensland titles deleted from the fuselage.
To fill the vacuum left by the withdrawal of these aircraft from Cairns a new DC-3 operator has moved in. North East Airlines has been formed to offer DC-3 passenger and freight charters. They are using DC-3 VH-SBL, which was painted in North East markings in Brisbane before it was ferried to Cairns on December 14th. VH-SBL operated its first charter flight for North East on December 18th.
